Cascara Sagrada Bark is a natural stimulant laxative commonly used by medical professionals for bowel preparation before colonoscopies or other intestinal procedures. It is safe for use as a laxative in both elderly and pediatric patients. After ingestion, cascara typically takes 6-10 hours to act on the colon. It stimulates the mucosal lining, triggering the secretion of electrolytes and water, which increases bowel content. This process creates pressure in the colon, promoting the movement of feces.
